A fabulously entertaining Music Staff Concert
What an incredible feast of music we were treated to by the Music Department staff this week. It is the moment when the tables are turned and the children and parents get the opportunity to see their teachers in the spotlight. Needless to say, the theatre was packed…
The quality of performance was fantastic and the children’s attention caught whilst the concert kicked off with such delights as ‘Clarinet on the Town’ by Ralph Hermann and Bach’s ‘1st Suite Prelude, Sarabande and Gigue’ for the cello. And so the scene was set - euphonium, piano, saxophone, piccolo, guitar, marimba, trombone and the buckets were all to follow!
It was inspirational for the children to see Mr Marquiss playing his own compositions and to watch Mr Danaher performing when it is only a few years since he was in their shoes - a Hazlegrove pupil himself. To see such comedy in performance with Mr Marquiss’ ‘Pop Mini Mix’ where he had the children signing along (seeing how quickly they could guess the next song of the compilation) and Mr Fawbert playing the Acrobat on a fantastic assortment of trombones (where did he get one that small?) just went to show the children how much fun you can have with music performance. The ensemble playing the buckets was a fabulously fitting finale to a wonderful evening – watch this space, a video clip may follow!!!
This is one of the events in the music calendar of Hazlegrove not to be missed – inspiring and entertaining in equal measures! A huge thank you to the music staff who were able to give up their time to perform for us.
