Year 4 enjoy reviewing the Kate Greenaway Award books
Year 4 celebrated our love of illustration by taking part in shadowing the Kate Greenaway Medal. A book is given this prestigious award each year for the quality of its illustrations.
We looked at 5 books from the shortlist and discussed them in small groups focusing on the impact of the illustrations and the different techniques used. We then voted on our favourite. The Rules of Summer by Shaun Tan was our outright winner. The children loved ‘the way it mixed different colours’ and the amount detail in, for example, the buildings as well as its rather ‘unreal’ quality. Interestingly , the judges did not agree ; they chose a book called Shackleton, a beautiful book with pictures drawn in pencil crayon about the explorer.
We now have copies of each book to enjoy in the Lower School library.
