Year 3 poets go to the Dillington Poetry Slam
A bright and sunny morning greeted four passionate Year 3 poets, as they set off to join other Somerset schools at the annual ‘Poetry Slam’ at Dillington House. The beautiful house would prove to be an idyllic backdrop to what would turn out to be a fantastic morning!
We started off by listening to lots of different schools from around the county performing their poetry, each with their own unique style. Once it was our turn, we performed ‘walking with my Iguana’ by Brian Moses. We used both actions and drums to add excitement and interest to our performance, with the smiles on everybody’s faces testament to how much it was enjoyed by all!
Afterwards, we enjoyed listening to our poetry guest, Tony Mitton, who give recitals of his latest poem and then everyone loved asking questions to him. In-between activities, we enjoyed visiting the bubble zone, where the children got to make lots of different sized bubbles to support our poetry theme!
A super day was had by all and we are very much looking forward to performing to the other Year 3 and 4s during our Lower School Poetry Festival!
