Year 5 embarked on a trip to Bristol to compare and contrast different religions.  Here is Amelia B's report on ther day...

Our exciting trip all started with a long coach journey. When we finally parked up to go inside the humble mosque everybody was covering up with head scarfs, leggings and trousers. The mosque was in a very built up area, and in itself was very minute.

When we were inside and sitting down in the room of worship, after taking our shoes of, a man gave us all a talk. It was very interesting. We found out all about the man's visit to Mecca. He also told us a lot about praying and the religion. After this the year fives got to explore the little mosque. There were other praying praying rooms, and also a small mortuary. This was were they washed dead bodies and put them in a freezer to keep overnight. There were other places like the Audubon, were Muslims washed there selves before praying. The minbar and mihrab were both also interesting places. There was not much decoration though.

After we looked round the mosque, the man taught everyone how to pray and we found out even more about the five pillars of Islam, and different times to pray.  Before we departed from the mosque we asked ingenious questions. Then, we went on a short journey to college green. There we had a yummy lunch of sandwiches, crisps and chocolate bars.

Later, after our lunch, the year where told to go into groups and we had a tour around the cathedral. The lady who showed my group round was called Joan. Joan gave us lots of information and showed us all the statues and stained glass windows.

The Cathedral was very different from the mosque and was much bigger. There where also lots of similarities like how there is an Imam and a priest. But, the Cathedral seemed, in some ways, to show of much more and was very elaborate. I don't know which place of worship I preferred, they were both amazing in different ways.

After having a great tour, we did a workshop. Our group drew stained glass windows. Laila's drawing was incredible. Then we got in the coach and were ready to go after having a great day!
