Hazlegrove succeed at the Flying Start Challenge
24 children, 6 teams, took part in this year's Flying Start Challenge.
This involved working with Leonardo Helicopters to design and make a glider that would fly the furthest and the straightest while keeping within a tight materials budget.
The children competed in the regional final, against other local secondary schools, which was held at RNAS Yeovilton. The day involved Engineering challenges, an Aeronautic exam, a formal presentation to senior Engineers, an opportunity to explore a Wildcat and a Merlin helicopter in the Hangar and then THE FLY OFF!
All the teams did absolutely fantastically and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Team Eaglez came 2nd overall and have qualified for the National Final which is being held in March at the Fleet Air Museum. I am, once again, extremely proud of our Hazlegrove pupils for being such delightful sports and positive ambassadors for Hazlegrove.
