Storm Callum added to the excitement for Year 5 at Naturesbase!
A trip to Naturesbase always guarantees two things: lots of mud and lots of fun!
Both groups followed exactly the same program though 5S set off first on Sunday and experienced the best of the weather. Mr Birch and Miss Taylor supported Mrs Spilsbury and 5S had a wonderful time building dens in the woods, learning to start fires with flint and steel, hiking along woodland paths to the coast to enjoy ice creams and some fun building crab theme parks.
On Wednesday, we waved to each other as we passed in our mini-buses, and the arrival of 5A and 5J was soon followed by the arrival of Storm Callum! The great thing about Naturesbase is that Gyles and Tamsin, our outdoor leaders, will carry on with the program whatever the weather, and the great thing about our children is that they loved every minute! Gyles commented that this was the worst weather he had experienced at Naturesbase with a group in his 10 years there, and yet our Year 5s did not complain at any stage even when they struggled to stand up in the 50mph winds on the coast in the town of Aberaeron!
Mr Brown and Mr Morrison joined up with Miss Aggett and Mr Jenkins for the second group and Miss Taylor stayed on for another dose of Naturesbase. A huge thank-you to all of our staff who did a wonderful job, and also to Gyles, Alison and Tamsin for all the cooking, cleaning and leadership that they provided. Storm Callum nearly had final say on Saturday; we had to reverse up a steep and narrow road to avoid a minor flood, but eventually arrived back at Hazlegrove still a little muddy, more than a little tired, but hugely happy with all that we had experienced!
Mr Jenkins.
