Year 5 enjoyed a day at the Tank Museum

Bombs crashing overhead, shattering the silence which had fallen over the darkened battlefield. Ragged terrain dented by the demonic bombs. Frightened we sat and waited for the whistle to blow and call us forward…

This is the experience, which the Year 5 children had during our visit to the Tank Museum, in Bovington. The children gained a great insight to what life was like for soldiers fighting on the Western Front during WW1. They explored a British and German trench, and better understood how soldiers lived in them. They were also lucky enough to climb in one of the only tanks to survive from the period and investigate what it would be like to drive, live and fight in one.

During the afternoon, we explored the museum and started to compare and contrast tanks from across different eras as well as undertake a thoroughly entertaining trail of the exhibits. It was an incredible day and the guides were enormously impressed with the knowledge and understanding on show from all children.
