Year 4 believe every child should visit Carymoor Environmental Centre
'Every child should go to Carymoor'. This was the unanimous view of Year 4 who spent the day at the environmental centre near Castle Cary last week as part of our Earthwyz Festival.
Year 4 witnessed the enormous landfill site and seeing where our vast quantity of rubbish ends up. Wearing hi-viz vests, the children were given a very comprehensive tour around the whole site; of great fascination were the huge circular containers filtering leachate (bin juice) which bubbled like a witch's cauldron and walking over thirty years of rubbish that had been grassed over. On a lighter note, the children enjoyed making kites out of plastic bags and willow, and we were so impressed with how well they flew.
The children returned full of ideas about how we could do our part to reduce the mountain of rubbish. It was an excellent and very educational visit and one we hope to repeat.
