Wind-up vehicles and digitally designed rulers in DT and DDR
Year 4 and Year 5 have been working hard in Design and Technology and Digital Design and Realisation (DDR)...
Year 4 have been designing and making their own wind-up vehicles. They created 3D mounds out of clay first and then, as they clay was drying they created their own surface designs and patterns on Ipads which we then sublimation printed onto plastic using a high temperature transfer process. Once they had printed their plastic we then vacuum formed around the clay old to make the 3D body of the car.
We then created wind up mechanisms using elastic bands and put them on the chassis and wheels of the car.
Here are some of the finished cars - they look great and the children are, understandably, really proud of them.
Yr 5 have been designing and making rulers in DDR, learning about measurements and how to work accurately and with absolute precision. They have produced some fantastic, creative and very accurate rulers using the laser-cutter to cut them out.
They have produced some fantastic work and thoroughly enjoyed this project.
