Year 6 Geography field trip to Sherborne
On the Friday before half term, Year 6 headed off for a busy and fun afternoon of geography fieldwork. Where are Queen Camel, Marston Magna and Sherborne on the settlement hierarchy and how do we know? These are the questions we will be answering in our write up after half term and we collected lots of data to help give us the evidence we need, from looking at the number of services to doing pedestrian counts.
The weather was excellent, thankfully, and pupils began to appreciate the difficulties that come from classifying settlements; they don’t always fit the model patterns outlined in geography textbooks! Year 6 even started evaluating the flaws in the data collection process, which is good preparation for Common Entrance fieldwork.
We crammed a huge amount into the time we had before rushing back to Hazlegrove to start a well-earned half term break! An excellent afternoon.
