Year 3 re-enact the Battle of Hastings
In History this term, Year 3 have been exploring Anglo-Saxon life and times. As part of this topic they have investigated shields which soldiers would use in battle. They designed painted the shields to reflect the insignia of the unit and to be intimidating in battle.
The Year 3 children then used these to learn about Anglo- Saxon military tactics such as the shield wall. Afterwards, in Outdoor Ed, they re-enacted the Battle of Hastings which took place in 1066. They took different roles in the armies Anglo-Saxon armies of Harold and the Norman armies of William I. Unfortunately, the Anglo-Saxon shield wall couldn’t stop William the Conqueror beating Harold after much fighting!
