A mathematically challenging afternoon at Bryanston
On Thursday, four very eager Year 6 mathematicians travelled to Bryanston School to compete in the Bryanston Maths Challenge. This highly competitive event was divided into three activities designed to test different aspects of the syllabus (and beyond).
The first activity was called ‘Find the Value’ and it involved a combination of basic algebra skills, a little logic and some cunning trial and improvement. The second activity was Countdown which was run on the same lines as the popular television series. The final challenge was a gruelling problem solving marathon in which the twenty word puzzles got progressively more difficult.
All four of our mathematical ambassadors worked feverously hard for three hours and I was extremely impressed with their determination and focus. Ultimately team Nonagon (Jocelin C and Oscar S) came 5 out of the 25 teams in their division and team Hexagon (Poppy L and Ottilie S) came 8, also out 25 teams.
