Heat changing 'Textile Dragons', steady-hand games and USB memory stick holders - DT lessons are fun
Heat changing 'Textile Dragons', steady-hand games and USB memory stick holders... DT lessons are fun.
Year 4 Textile Dragons
Textiles comes under the ‘umbrella’ of the broad range materials we cover in Design and Technology. This term Year 4 children are designing and making dragon themed cushions in a project that is linked to their Dragon topic in classwork.
They have carried out a range of different techniques so far that include thermo-chromic paints (heat changing), phosphorescent paint (glow in the dark) and this week, carried out 2 different types of dyeing; micro-tie dyeing and molecular displacement dyeing. The children have been creating fantastic ‘atmospheric’ effects that link with the poems and descriptive writing they have enjoyed as part of the topic, and will then appliqué their laser-cut dragons on top.
These cushions are going to absolutely spectacular and the children are so excited to be making them.
Year 6 Steady-Hand Games
Year 6 have been working on steady-hand games in DT.
They have used software to design and laser-cut their shells, and have used heat processes to 3D form them. They have linked with Science to create a working circuit, learning about conductors and insulators, inputs and outputs. These are a few of the finished games that the children are really excited to be taking home.
Year 8 USB Sticks
Year 8 have been designing a USB memory stick that is eye-catching, so they wont lose it, and unique, so they will recognise it as theirs.
Here are a couple of finished examples. They are unique and creative.
