Last week was a busy hockey week. Hazlegrove hosted three Under 12 Hockey Tournaments and it is always such a delight to see so many girls enjoying this sport.

We feel passionately that all girls should have the same experiences so we host an U12a, U12b and an U12c Team Tournament for local schools. This year we welcomed 14 teams; well done to our U12c team who won the bronze medals.

On Wednesday we also attended the King's Bruton Hockey Tournaments with both our U13 and U11 team – both teams played some super hockey and can look forward to exciting seasons ahead; congratulations to the U11’s who finished as runners up after some very exciting penalty shuffles to get them through to the final.

Other U13 and U10 girls were in action against both Taunton School and Kings Hall in school fixtures.

The U13 Squash Team had their first outing last Friday against Sandroyd and played some convincing squash winning 5-0.  It is great to see the courts being well used at breaks and lunchtimes and to see a number of new Hazlegrove pupils taking up the game.

Clubs and training squads are now back in full swing and there is a great buzz around the sports department. We have lots to look forward to – more hockey tournaments – both here and away, squash fixtures, the first swimming gala of the term and the Hazlegrove Golf Open.

Unfortunately, our rugby pitches are still not quite ready for matches, despite the best efforts of our fabulous grounds team – fingers crossed we get some rain pretty soon.

Mrs Cobb.
