The Year 3 pupils stepped back in time to the Tudor period this week, exploring Montacute House to better understand what life was like 400 years ago.

The house itself was built at the end of the 16th century and must be considered one of the most beautiful Elizabethan houses in all of England! The children had a great time exploring the grounds, especially the Pudding Houses, where guests would retire to enjoy their puddings following a meal, and also the Orangery, which was used to cover the winter orange trees that spent the summer on the terrace by the house. The children also had the opportunity to undertake some sketches of the building and we were all amazed by the detail and designs which were produced.

After a yummy lunch in the picnic area, we were greeted by our amazing guides who brought the Tudor period to life with their fabulous stories, costumes and artefacts from the period. When walking around the children loved spotting portraits they recognised from our studies of the Tudors; particularly ones of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. To finish off the excellent day, the different groups took part in Tudor workshops, including making spice bags, miniature portraits and using the quill pens!

It was an extremely worthwhile trip and the year group did Hazlegrove proud with their super behaviour.
Mr Capozzoli.
