Hazlegrove win the Exmoor Challenge Mixed Category
On a glorious bank holiday weekend, twelve brave Hazlegrovians competed in this year's Exmoor Challenge, working in groups of four to complete a 16-mile hike across the moor and hitting checkpoints at various times along the way.
After an enjoyable time making our own pizzas on Friday evening, followed by a campfire and a few games of Capture the Flag, we made our way up to the moor early on Saturday morning. Leaving Dulverton School, the groups had their kit checked and went on their way. All of our pupils did us really proud, not only finishing the course, but keeping spirits high and helping each other when the going got tough. Points were lost for being early or late to a checkpoint, not having items of kit, or breaking the country code e.g. leaving gates open.
All of our teams finished the route (no mean feat in itself) and did really well when the results came in...
Team 1 (Caspar, Lucas, George and Harry) came in 5th in the Boys category,
Team 2 (Angus, Teddy, Kitty and Flora) came in 5th in the Mixed category,
And Team 3 (Philip, Josh, Lucy and Thea) did amazingly well and managed to WIN the Mixed category, not losing any time points at all and coming top of the table!
A huge well done to all the pupils for taking part and being such good sports; you all really deserve your medals! Thanks also to Mr Shaw, Mrs Spilsbury and Mrs Birch for helping on the day. It was lovely to see so much parent and staff support up on the moor as well.
