A busy start to term for the hockey girls
What a busy start to the term for the girls. As well as school matches against both Kings Hall and All Hallows we have played in and hosted a number of tournaments. We were all so proud of our ex Hazlegrove pupil – Maddie Hinch and her exploits in goal at the European Hockey Finals; we certainly had something to aspire to on the pitches this term. (Click on the image below to see a copy of the Sunday Times article on how Maddie inspired England to become European Hockey Champions).
On our first day back at school we hosted a separate U12A and U12B tournaments in which all of our HZG Year 7 girls played. We welcomed 5 schools who all brought A and B teams. Our B team finished third and our A team won.
On the same day King’s Bruton hosted U13 and U11 tournaments. Hazlegrove finished as Runners Up in both of these taking home the silver medals (see photos below). We had also entered our B teams into these tournaments and our U11B’s reached the semi-finals – a great achievement.
Last Saturday Hazlegrove welcomed over 150 girls to play in our annual U13B and U13C tournaments. The U13A one taking place at All Hallows; in which we finished third. We enjoyed hosting 16 teams from 8 different schools and used the Moore, Bastion and the Sports Hall to play a very large number of fast and furious hockey matches. At the end of the afternoon we were very proud of the HZG girls who had all played with real pride and passion. Our C team finished in third place, taking home the bronze medals and in the B tournament our navy blue team reached the semi-finals and our sky blue team won - see below.
It has been a very busy start to the hockey term and it has been great to see all of the girls from Year 3 to 8 enjoying the wonderful sport of hockey.
The U11B girls at the King's Bruton Tournament - semi-finalists, a great achievement!
