A round-up of the sports news since exeat...

Netball

All of the girls at Hazlegrove have been very busy on the netball courts, training hard and trying to develop their skills. It has been lovely to see the courts buzzing at break times with girls that are so keen to improve their shooting skills. Congratulations to both the U11 and U13 teams who won their respective ‘vase’ sections at the recent Bryanston Tournaments.

Cross Country – County Championships

These took place at Aldon Hill, just outside Yeovil over the last exeat. At these championships all Hazlegrove runners did both us and them very proud – with seven gaining top ten finishes:

  • Fred F – 1st in the Minor Boys
  • Carlos A – 4th in the Minor Boys
  • Anya E – 1st in the Minor Girls
  • Kai S – 2nd in the Minor Girls
  • Tilly L – 8th in the Minor Girls
  • Harriet T – 3rd in the Junior Girls
  • Sam C – 4th in the Junior Boys

All runners were aiming to gain top 10 finishes to try and earn themselves a place in the Somerset County team to compete at the South West Championships.

Cross Country – South West Championships

We were delighted that last Saturday eight Hazlegrove children were selected to represent Somerset at the South West Inter Counties competition in Cheltenham. The weather and conditions can only be described and horrendous but all of the athletes performed admirably. We await confirmation if either of our Year 8 runners have gained a place at the forthcoming prestigious English Schools Championships that take place in Nottingham on 5th March.

Swimming

The new pool surround proved to be a very busy and buzzing place last week, when Hazlegrove hosted a regional round of the IAPS swimming. We welcomed six schools to Hazlegrove and the standard of swimming was superb. Fingers crossed that we will have some children selected for the IAPS finals that take place in May.; results should be out before the Easter holidays.

Riding

Congratulations to the school teams that have been busy recently. A fitting team win in Class 1 at the Mendip Farmers Eventer’s competition was the highlight of our last outing.
