A spectacular bonfire night
Spirits were high on Friday in anticipation of the annual Guy building competition and bonfire night. Each year there is a theme for the Guys and this year the children were challenged to make “Enemies of Doctor Who”.
There was a frenzy of activity after lessons had finished on Friday when the children assembled in their tutor groups to create their Guys. Clocks ticking, the children set to work with some incredible results as you can see from the video and photos below. Their fearsome creations were then taken to the sports hall for the serious business of the judging. They included daleks, snowmen, adipose and weeping angels and even Cassandra (after her 708 surgical operations). Competition was as tough as ever with Dover being awarded the Treason Trophy for the house honours.
Guided by torchlight the monsters were transported to the bonfire and committed to their grisly fate. The Friends had organised a fantastic array of stalls for everyone to enjoy with such delights as hog roast, hot dogs, pizzas, mulled wine, beer and of course toffee apples. The evening was rounded off with the firework display which was truly spectacular!
Our thanks go to the Friends’ bonfire night committee for such a fantastic evening – it is a huge undertaking organising such an event and it was much appreciated by everyone.
