After an exciting trip to the farm last week, the Dragonflies were eager to discuss their adventure.

They began the week by sharing what animals they saw on the farm and then worked as a team to sort the farm animals from the jungle animals. After completing this, the children had the opportunity to draw their favourite animal from the farm and labelled their picture with a word or simple sentence. During the week, the Dragonflies received a letter from the farmer explaining that all his farm animals had escaped from their pens! The Dragonflies were super helpful and returned the animals back to their pens, making sure they had the correct number of each animal in each pen. The children have also been exploring number 7 as their number of the week. The children were set a challenge throughout the week to find objects that represented number 7. By the end of the week, the number of the week table was full of amazing number 7 finds. Finally, the Dragonflies had the opportunity to extend their farm animal knowledge. They learnt about farm animals and their babies. While creating some beautiful baby animal drawings using oil pastels, the children began to use baby animal names, such as, lamb, piglet, calf and kid.

This week there was another mystery to solve in the woods, to help the Fairytale Police solve a crime. The chefs had been making some gingerbread men and the CCTV had captured them running out of the oven looking very scared! Who was the culprit chasing them?! That was a job for the Butterflies and Ladybirds to find out. They followed a trail of clues, including footprints, crumbs and orange fur! Eventually, it led us to a den, inhabiting some foxes and there they found the remains of one poor gingerbread man. Throughout the week, the children have joined in with various gingerbread-themed activities. They have investigated materials, working out which ones would make a suitable boat for the Gingerbread Man to cross the river safely, used paint and craft materials to make their own gingerbread men, and explored the ingredients to make a real gingerbread man.

At the end of the week, we received a postcard from the Gingerbread Man and friends, he gave us some clues to help find them and save them from that pesky fox! We followed the clues and found them hiding in a tree! The Fairytale Police were so pleased the children had solved another mystery that they sent us a delicious batch of freshly baked gingerbread men as a thank you. The children decorated them, using their mathematical skills to place the correct number of eyes and buttons on the top.
