Year 1 Visit Longleat
What an incredible week we have had in Year 1 which kicked off with a safari adventure to Longleat to finish our inspiring topic on Africa.
We started with a fabulous boat ride to see the huge gorillas, fluffy monkeys and very noisy sea lions who delighted us with their tricks by the boat in exchange for fishy treats! We wondered through the meerkats enclosure, watched the porcupines being fed and gazed at the adorable koalas after watching the scary crocodiles soaking up the warmth. After a brilliant train ride, we gobbled our lunch, had a quick play in the playground and headed off on our safari! The animals really put on a show for us and we saw so many of the incredible creatures we had learnt about including the giraffe and zebra up close. The lions watched us go by, the tiger patrolled his enclosure and the cheetahs stood right by the bus for us to gaze at! We had the most wonderful day! The week continued with lots of hard work as we enjoyed reading this week’s focus text, “The Snail and the Whale”. We looked at settings and characters and loved writing similes in our descriptions and letters to the whale. In maths we worked on capacity and recording using pictograms. By Friday, happy but tired children (and teachers) headed home for a much needed weekend!
