Hazlegrove Marks the 80th Anniversary of D-Day
8S presented a whole school assembly to help teach younger pupils about the events on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day 80 years ago.
The children learnt about the significance of D-Day and how the events of the day unfolded. As part of the assembly, the School community came together to reflect and pay tribute to the heroism of the many people who paid the ultimate sacrifice and did not return from the campaign. Alongside hymns, prayers, moments for reflection and the sounding of The Last Post, the children also heard The D-Day Proclamation read by our very own town crier, Alex, and a poem by Chelsea Pensioner, Roy Palmer, about the events of D-Day which was written especially for school children. We then lit our own Lamp Light of Peace whilst Naomi read The Tribute. 8S delivered the assembly with maturity and composure, befitting of such an occasion.
