Year 1 Identify Carnivores, Herbivores and Omnivores
We learnt about the Big 5 last week in Year 1, but who are ‘The Ugly 5’?
The children loved reading Julia Donaldsons brilliant story “ The Ugly 5” and describing some of the grotty, stinky savannah animals in the book. We also wrote speech bubbles, rhyming couplets and enjoyed learning about alliteration. We wrote about wonderful, wild, wildebeests and horrible, hideous, hyenas. Phonic lessons have been interactive and fun as we learnt how to read and write split digraphs more confidently. In maths, we used our knowledge of pairs to 10 to learn how to bridge 10. We used bead strings, numicon and 10s frames to help us.
During our science lesson, we loved learning about what animals eat and identifying which animals are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. We also learnt about life in Kenya, comparing our life with a child living in Kenya in our geography lessons.
