A Perfect Windy Day for our Ladybirds and Butterflies

Pre-Prep PrePrep

This week the Dragonflies have been reading “Oliver’s Vegetables”.

At the beginning of the week, we carefully drew vegetables of our choice, selecting colours accurately and looking at shapes. The children were able to hear some of the letter sounds in the vegetable's names, and even write some of them. Later in the week, we washed and chopped our vegetables before having a nibble! The children were able to clearly say which vegetables they did and did not like and give a reason. They also used a variety of amazing adjectives to describe each vegetable, including hot, spicy radishes, soft mushrooms, hard, crunchy carrots and sweet, juicy peppers! We created a graph of our favourite vegetables and the carrot was the most popular by far!

Taking advantage of a windy start to the week, Ladybirds and Butterflies took a walk to the fields to explore the effects of the wind when flying streamers and kites. Feeling inspired, they then created their rainbow kites back in the classroom.

We have been looking at what happens as we grow this week and the children have been busy creating their fact files which have included information about their age, height, shoe size and hand prints.

At the beginning of the week, we looked at pictures of when the children were babies. They used them to talk about similarities and differences and then drew self-portraits. As a class we used a height chart to find out who was the tallest and who was the shortest and the children also used cubes to measure their feet. We have found out about the life cycle of a human and the children have been thinking of what skills they'd like to learn as they grow.

Our youngest children have been busy discovering animals in boxes, linked to the story 'Dear Zoo', they helped all the baby animals find their Mummies and Daddies and used their language of size to describe the different animals.
