World Philosophy Day with Year 3
Year 3 connected with children from around the world yesterday morning when they took part in an online workshop as part of World Philosophy Day.
The Lower School children have been enjoying their P4C sessions (Philosophy for children) which form one element of our weekly Wellbeing lessons, and this was a great opportunity for the children to be involved in several mini philosophical enquiries that took them beyond the cattlegrid and enabled them to connect with over fifty different schools from as far away as South Africa and Vienna! The children were encouraged to consider three key questions; Would you save a butterfly from a spider’s web? Is there anything that Scientists shouldn’t research? If Scientists could make you kinder, should they? There was a lot of deep thinking and reasoning from the children which fuelled a healthy debate. It was great to see the children engaged and eager to both listen respectfully and share their own ideas. Next week, the children are planning on sharing some of their thoughts in assembly to get the wider Hazlegrove community thinking too.
