I Expecto Patronum You Were Wondering What Year 5 Have Been Up To For Harry Potter Science Week...
Science lessons started with students being sorted into their Hogwarts houses, each taking a test tube containing a colourless liquid. A drop of 'sorting potion' was then placed into the tube, magically, the liquid changed colour to represent their chosen house.
Year 5 then linked this to their topic and learnt about signs of chemical changes.
Harry Potter week continued with a combined Potions and Charms lesson. Students tested different combinations of magical ingredients such as mermaid scales and basilisk venom and made notes on any their observations.
Bunsen burners were used to light magnesium, for the lumos charm, producing a bright white light from the tip of the 'wand'. Finally, iron filings were carefully tipped into the flame to observe a crackle and fizz similar to the stupefy charm for stunning enemies.
A fantastic week sharpening science skills, our year 5s are sure to pass their OWLs with flying colours!
