Introducing Mr Ed Benbow as the new Head of Hazlegrove Prep School, September 2022
The Governing Body of Hazlegrove Prep School is delighted to announce that Mr Ed Benbow has been appointed as the next Head of Hazlegrove Prep School. He will take up the post in September 2022 and will succeed Mr Mark White who moves onto Wetherby Prep School.
Ed is currently Deputy Head at Cothill House, one of the most highly regarded prep schools in the country, looking after boarding school boys up to the age of 13. Prior to Cothill, Ed was Head of Boarding at Pinewood School, a co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3 – 13, on the border of Wiltshire and Oxfordshire. Ed is a Mathematics teacher and a keen coach who loves to develop pupils’ talents in rugby, cricket and hockey in his current role.
Hazlegrove provides the ideal return to the West Country for Ed who grew up very near to Hazlegrove, attending Queen Camel primary school, before moving to Perrott Hill and then Sherborne School. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, Russian and Economics at Durham University, before joining JPMorgan in 2001 working in European Equity Sales, moving to Citigroup as a director in 2009.
In 2012 he completed a PGCE in secondary mathematics, before moving to Pinewood School in Oxfordshire. There he ran the boarding for six years before moving to Cothill House as their Deputy Head. He has a Masters in Educational Leadership and is a keen sportsman and musician. He is ably supported by his wife Amanda, currently an educational psychologist and previously an early years teacher, their children and two lively cocker spaniels.
Mr Stephen Edlmann, Senior Warden of the Governing Body said, ‘Ed stood out in a very strong field due to his passion for education and his clear alignment with the values and ethos which lie at the heart of Hazlegrove. We very much look forward to welcoming Ed, Amanda and their family to Hazlegrove.’
Ed said of his appointment, ‘Amanda and I feel hugely honoured and excited to be joining Hazlegrove in September. We were so impressed by the children and staff and can't wait to work alongside them and be part of such a nurturing family. We look forward to meeting up with the Hazlegrove community over the coming months.’
