Year 5 DT Bridges Competition
Year 5 have been learning about structures and how bridges are made and reinforced.
They have looked at a range of famous bridges and compared differences in type, construction, materials, length, use and purpose.
They are now having a competition to see which team can make the strongest bridge structure across a specified distance using limited materials which they have to cost out.
They have modelled and tested their bridge ideas out of card and are now onto constructing with timber.
So far, we have reached a max weight supported of 2 anvils! It’s so interesting to see all the different approaches and construction techniques used when the children make their own bridges, the children are enjoying the hands-on approach to learning about reinforcing materials and structures. They also love the friendly competitive element – final will be this week.
