National Schools Equestrian Show Jumping Finals
Last Friday, five Hazlegrove riders travelled to Buckingham to the National Schools Show Jumping Finals – something that we had qualified for by winning the Somerset County Finals last term.
Our school team consisted of: Skye F, Anna I, Emily W and Josh C.
We had Patrick D-R riding as an individual.
In the warm up class on Friday afternoon there were over 70 competitors from across the country – all five had good rounds with Josh finishing 3rd and Patrick 6th overall.
We had an early start on Saturday morning with the class beginning at 8.30am. Ponies to be plaited, courses to walk and we were drawn the fourth school to go.
Everyone jumped a round in the Olympic Legacy Outdoor Arena and then went into the main indoor arena for the second timed round. There were 142 children competing for their schools in the class.
We had five lovely clear rounds outside and the pressure was mounting as we all moved to the indoor arena.
Josh went first and put up a clear round in a very quick time – in fact he had the fastest clear round of the whole class.
Emily followed and again went clear with a good time, then it was Anna, Sky and Patrick’s turn and they too did all the quick routes but unfortunately had one jump down (4 faults).
Our team score – using the best three to count, finished as four faults with a very quick time. Patrick, as an individual, also finished on four faults.
Overall, the team finished 4th – which is an incredible achievement for our very young team and something that they can be very proud of.
Individual rosettes were awarded to: Josh and Patrick.
Team Rosettes and Medals were awarded to: Josh, Emily, Anna and Skye.
